EFT Tapping for Transformative Healing

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – Tap into Your Best Self

Feeling stuck, stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed? You’re certainly not alone—and there’s a simple, powerful tool that can help you feel calmer, lighter, and more in control: EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), often called "tapping’ or ‘psychological acupuncture’.

I first discovered EFT when I was 21, I was going through a tough time emotionally and felt stuck in a loop going over the same emotion. I couldn’t move forward.

After 1 session of EFT a huge weight was lifted, and so I was hooked! Since then I’ve used it countless times on myself, family and clients for emotional freedom on issues that have lingered on for way too long, trauma and stress that derails us completely, or issues that are part of daily life that we need to learn to cope better with! It’s very versatile and extremely effective.

What is EFT?

EFT or ‘tapping’ blends modern psychology with the ancient wisdom of acupressure, using gentle tapping on key acupuncture points while you focus on specific thoughts, feelings, or challenges. It's like emotional acupuncture without the needles (we use our fingers instead!)—releasing stuck energy, calming the nervous system, and helping you reset on a deep level. Rooted in principles from traditional Chinese medicine, like acupuncture and acupressure, EFT is designed to help rebalance the body’s energy system and reduce the emotional intensity of negative experiences. The system was founded by Gary Craig in 1995 and is part of a growing field of Energy Psychology. A fundamental principal of EFT is ‘a disruption in energy is the cause of all negative emotions and pain’, therefore when we rebalance the body’s energy system then we can heal the emotional and physical pain too.

And the cherry on the top for EFT? The many clinical studies showing that EFT can reduce cortisol (your stress hormone), lower anxiety levels, and even rewire emotional triggers in the brain, so it’s there in the science literature to see in black and white.

What Can EFT Help With?

EFT is effective for a wide range of emotional, mental, and physical challenges, including:

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Fears and phobias (e.g., flying, heights, public speaking)

  • Past trauma and PTSD

  • Chronic pain and tension

  • Low self-confidence and self-esteem

  • Emotional eating and cravings

  • Sleep issues and insomnia

  • Grief, anger, and sadness

  • Relationship or work-related stress

  • Performance anxiety (sports, exams, public speaking, presentations)

It’s incredibly flexible and can be tailored to whatever you’re facing.

How Does EFT Work?

When you experience stress, your body switches into fight, flight, or freeze mode. This is your survival response—great if you’re being chased by a tiger and need to run fast, but less helpful when you're trying to get through a busy workday, manage a relationship, or sleep at night in a constant state of stress or fear.

EFT helps interrupt this automatic stress/fear loop. By tapping on acupuncture points (like the side of the hand, eyebrow, under the eye) while focusing on emotional challenges or stressful thoughts that are bothering you, we stimulate the body’s energy system to signal safety. This calms the amygdala (the brain’s alarm system), allowing you to shift from survival mode back to balance and resilience. EFT helps:

  • Calm the body’s stress response

  • Release the emotional intensity of an issue/fear

  • Rewire limiting beliefs and negative patterns to create joy and optimism

  • Create space for healing, clarity, and emotional freedom

  • Breakthrough the stuck energy that’s holding you back

It’s safe, easy to learn, and incredibly effective—whether you’re working through a major trauma or simply feeling stuck in your day-to-day life.

What Happens in a Session?

Every session is personalised just for you. We'll start by identifying what you want to work on—whether it's a big emotional challenge, physical issues or a nagging daily stress. You’ll be guided step-by-step through tapping technique and sequence, while uncovering the root causes behind the feelings, helping to shift and release them gently. You ‘tap’ on yourself unless you prefer me to tap on you instead.

You’ll leave the session feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected to yourself—with tools you can use anytime you need a reset. You’ll be provided with a reference guide and some tapping homework in some cases depending on the issue.

FAQs About EFT

Q: Does EFT really work?
A: Yes! There’s growing scientific evidence supporting EFT’s effectiveness, particularly for stress, anxiety, PTSD, and even pain management. Many people notice a shift in just one session. The latest science can be seen here https://www.evidencebasedeft.com/research

Q: Do I have to talk about painful memories or traumatic experiences?
A: No, it’s not necessary to share your deepest or traumatic experiences to heal. EFT is very gentle, and can be adapted with various techniques so you don’t have to go into any detail or share your thoughts. It's about feeling safe and empowered so we’ll take things at a pace that is right for you.

Q: How long is a session?
A: Sessions usually last 60 minutes. Some people feel a shift straight away, while others benefit from a few sessions to clear deeper issues.

Q: How Long Does It Take to See Results?

A: Everyone’s different, but many people feel a noticeable shift within just one session—especially for emotional stress, anxiety, or fears. For deeper or long-standing issues (like trauma or chronic patterns), a series of sessions may be needed to fully release the layers. The beauty of EFT is that change can be quick, gentle, and lasting, without having to relive the trauma in detail.

Q: Can I use EFT at home?
A: Absolutely! I’ll teach you simple techniques you can use anytime between sessions

Q: Will EFT interfere with other therapies or medications?
A: No. EFT is complementary and can work alongside other treatments or therapies safely.

Q: Is there any scientific evidence for EFT?

Yes — EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), also known as tapping, is backed by a growing body of scientific research. Over 100 peer-reviewed studies have explored its effectiveness, showing consistent positive results for issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, phobias, and stress. Clinical trials have shown that EFT can reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), improve emotional regulation, and even support physical symptoms like pain and cravings.

Unlike many other holistic therapies, EFT has been rigorously tested in settings including hospitals, schools, and war veteran programmes. It is recognised as an evidence-based practice for PTSD by the US Veterans Administration and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK is increasingly reviewing integrative approaches like EFT.
